How could stereotypical classifications based on communicative patterns lead to misinterpretations and furthermore discrimination? In the professional world and everyday life we are noticed either as woman or man, or as superiors, colleagues, scientists. Some of these classifications are based on stereotypes which include specific attributions of behaviour or “typical” communication skills – quite often subconsciously. In the end, no one is „without prejudice“ and our suppositions about stereotypes are often related to different attributions based on gender.

This Gender Training focuses exactly on this failure of appreciation and starts here to reflect the topics Gender, stereotypes and ways of communication in relation to social and cultural conditions and considers the scientific working environment. The training opens the window for social appreciation of gender sensitive ways of communication in academic structures and offers strategies to new forms of collegial and professional interactions.

Target group: Scientists (male or female) of DFG-funded research projects. The workshop is organized by CROSSING. For further questions please contact Dr. Thomas Schneider.
