For their paper “Breakdown Resilience of Key Exchange Protocols: New Hope, TLS 1.3, and Hybrids” the CYSEC reasearchs Jacqueline Brendel, Marc Fischlin, and Felix Günther were awarded at the European Symposium on Research in Computer Security 2019 (ESORICS) with the Best Paper Award.

In their paper the researchers write about broken cryptographic algorithms which are a constant threat to real world protocols. In their work, they present the breakdown resilience model which allows them to study security of a key exchange protocol even in case of unexpected failure of employed primitives, may it be number-theoretic assumptions, hash functions, signature schemes, key derivation functions, etc.

The ESORICS 2019 took place from September 23 to 27 in Luxembourg.
