First IT security startup at TU Darmstadt

Having started in April 2016, IT-SEAL is the first IT security startup from the TU Darmstadt. The project received the EXIST Business Start-up Grant endowed with 125.000€ by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) and is additionally funded by the European Social Fund.

IT-Seal (Social Engineering Analysis Labs) develops a scalable analysis that identifies and evaluates IT security problems that are caused by human behaviour. Based on this data, they provide companies with recommendations for investment decisions on how to decrease the threat of industrial espionage and sabotage. The goal is to improve the security situation in a joint way, employees are included during the whole security process. The results are summarized and handed out in a web application and a detailed report, while the anonymity of the employees is guaranteed.

The initiation for the project, which is mentored by CYSEC-PI Prof. Melanie Volkamer, was a master thesis, written within the SECUSO research group in 2014.
